The Rotary Club of Walnut Creek has performed a number of projects and support activities for the City’s premier park – Heather Farm. An early project was a new Kiosk (2003).
The Club was asked by the City to design and construct an information Kiosk for park visitors. About 20 club members were involved in the project. The structure was built off site in two sections. The first section was erected and a few days late the roof section was installed and the wood shingles added. The club continues to support maintenance of the Kiosk with periodic new coats of stain.
In 2007, the club was asked to undertake a large bridge project at the park.
The project was selected as a Rotary Centennial Project, to Celebrate Rotary International’s 100th Anniversary, by the club presidents for the years 2002-3,2003-4 & 2004-05. The project was for a bridge to give access to the Park’s New Naturel area across the Ygnacio Loop of the Contra Costa Canal and involved the City of Walnut Creek, Contra Costa Water District, Bureau of Reclamation and the club. There were problems with the Plans which delayed the project well past Rotary International’s Anniversary and the project became known as our Millennium Project. We completed the project in 2007 with a cost under $5000 and with hands on help from over 24 of our members. Much of the bridge was prefabricated off site with the pieces numbered and reassembled on Site in one day. Like the kiosk, the club continues to periodically give the bridge a fresh coat of stain.
