Inner Wheel is an international organization, closely linked to Rotary, that was founded in 1924 to unite wives and daughters of Rotarians. Currently there are 103,000 members in 3,895 clubs around the world. The objectives of Inner Wheel are (a) promoting true friendship, (b) encouraging the ideals of personal service, and (c) fostering international understanding. At the international level Inner Wheel assists in the distribution of myoelectric limbs for children. Individual clubs all over the world have projects such as schooling children of the poorest communities, training young women in skills to enable them to support themselves and collaborating with medical, rehabilitation and housing projects.

The Walnut Creek Inner Wheel Club was started in 1991 by Joan Mendes and others. The Club contributes funds to many local nonprofit organizations, a few being Operation School Bell, Guide Dogs for the Blind, the Monument Community Partnership, and the Family Stress Center. Each year clothing and blankets for newborns are given to families at the Contra Costa Regional Center. Additionally, the club meetings and enjoyable activities bind us together in support and friendship.
